Portugal voted "World's Best Tourist Destination" at the World Travel Awards
Portugal won the World Travel Awards in the "World's Best Tourist Destination" category, becoming the first European country to win this distinction by defeating competitors such as Brazil, Greece, Maldives, USA, Morocco, Vietnam or Spain.
Portugal was voted "World's Best Tourist Destination" of the World Travel Awards during a ceremony held today in Phu Quoc, Vietnam. In addition, other prizes were awarded to Portuguese destinations. Lisbon was awarded the "Best Destination for City Break" and Madeira was considered "Best Island Destination in the World".
Sintra's Parks - a public capital company that does not receive funding from the State Budget - won for the fifth year in a row in the category "Best Company in the World in Conservation", where it was once again named European and was distinguished by the work of recovery and restoration of parks and monuments under its management.
In addition to the prize for "World's Best Tourist Destination", Portugal also won the "Best Official Tourism Organization" of the World Travel Awards, attributed to "Turismo de Portugal", and "Best Official Tourism Site", attributed to the official information about the country, "visitportugal.com".
At the 24th edition of the World Travel Awards, also known as the "Tourism Oscars", Portugal has accumulated a total of six distinctions.
In a statement, the State Secretary for Tourism points out that in Europe, "only the cities of London and Paris" won in the category "Best Tourist Destination in the World". In this ambit, Dubai is the destination that more times (6) was distinguished with this award.
