Another Aussie newspaper surrendered to PORTO (Oporto)
The West Australian is surrendered to the city of Porto. The second largest city of Portugal is singled out as "seductive and intoxicating", in an article published this week.
Situated on the edge of Europe, on the banks of the Douro River, Porto is not a destination so sought after as the famous European capitals, however is highlighted as an excellent city to discover "by your own feet", says the author of the text, Ronan O'Connell, titled "Take a sip of intoxicating old Porto"!
"This is not a polished precinct tailor-made for foreign visitors. It is a warts-and-all suburb which in many parts shows the wear and tear associated with a history stretching back more than 2000 years. Porto is one of the oldest cities in Europe and some efforts have been made to revitalise its most ancient neighbourhood. But for the most part Ribeira is a timeworn place with a jumble of architecture ranging from Baroque to Neo-Classical and Belle Epoque."
