The “Best Wine River In The World” - Världens Viner - Sweden

“The best wine river in the world’s – travelling along the Douro” is the cover theme of the most recent issue of the Swedish magazine Världens Viner (Wines of the world) dedicated to the Douro Wine Region.

The different types and styles of port wine, the history of port wine, the varieties, the image of modern Douro and some of the region’s producers are the subject of several articles.

The president of the Port and Douro Wine Institute (IVDP), Manuel de Novaes Cabral, says that the “attractiveness of the Douro Wine Region is growing and that the highlight given in this Swedish magazine shows the character and international notoriety of the region, as a result of the role in the dissemination throughout the world played by the Port and Douro wines.”

Published four times a year, the Världens Viner was nominated in 2010 the world’s best wine magazine at the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards, in Paris, exploring in every number, dedicated to a country or wine region, the history, wine types and varieties, the tendencies, the profile of some producers, gastronomy, also advising on travelling and accommodation.

The edition on the Douro Valley happens after Porto and Douro distinction as “Wine Village of the Year” 2013 by the Munskänkarna, the world’s biggest wine club.

In other words, diversity is deeply impressive.

There is hardly a better reason than this to make a special issue where the river is at the center, where we travel from Spain to Portugal's Atlantic coast and visit one exciting wine producer after another.

But as we know, is not all wine. We also write about museums, interesting architecture and, not least, good food.
