Fodor 's, considered the largest group of tourism publications in the world, elected the Douro Valley as one of the 25 mandatory destinations to visit in 2014
The choice was made by the Fodor's Travel's Editor in Chief, Arabella Bowen, which presents Douro region as "the most beautiful wine region in the world" on Go List 2014.
Confined with a "wonderful and wild coastline", the Douro Valley is one of the oldest wine regions in the world, and UNESCO World Heritage ". Still, Fodor's says that it remains "one of the lesser-known gems of Europe", a secret hideaway for those who want discover it.
Emphasis on the "accessible, deep and rich red wine from the Douro" and the "effervescent Vinho Verde", all of them award-winning productions that came "stimulate an experienced hospitality industry along the wine route".
