PORT WINES: the most awarded at Decanter World Wine Awards


High recognition on Port Wine quality lead to an overwhelming 91% of Port Wines entered in the Decanter World Wine Awards got medals. This ensured to the Porto denomination of origin the first place on the podium of the classical award-winning wine regions of the world. 
In all, there were 247 medalist wines from the demarcated Douro Region (112 Port Wine and 135 Douro Wines). PORT wines collected 11 gold medals, 48 silver, 34 bronze and 19 medals of honor. DOURO wines have been awarded two gold medals, 26 silver, 56 bronze and 51 medals of honor. 
The results were published this month in the Special Edition Decanter World Wine Awards.
14362 wines from all over the world were in competition at the Decanter World Wine Awards. Wines from the Douro demarcated region, brought 247 medals for Portugal, including gold, silver, bronze and Medals of honor (commended).
In comparison with the previous edition, 2012, PORT wines brought to Portugal three more gold medals, which proves the commitment of producers of this region in increasing the quality of production processes and consequently, in improving the quality of wines.
The Decanter Awards (Decanter World Wine Awards in original) were elected by a jury of more than 200 members consisting of professionals, sommeliers and press representatives of 27 countries. The jury also included 75 Master of Wine and 13 Master Sommeliers.
Decanter Magazine is one of the most respected publications of wines from all over the world.
