Douro and Porto elected ' Wine Village of the year ' by Swedish wine club Munskänkarna




Porto, 30 jan (Lusa) - The biggest Wine Club in the world, the Swedish Munskänkarna, elected Porto and Douro as the ' Wine Village of the Year ' 2012, a distinction to be delivered on the 6th of February, industry source announced today.

The Club Munskänkarna, with 24,000 members, appoints annually since 1993, a city/region as 'The Wine village of the Year', which so far has been attributed to the territories of France, Germany, Italy, Austria, Spain and South Africa.

"It is with great pride that Porto and Douro receive this award, which celebrates the Portuguese wines, promotes the oldest winemaking region in the world, which has been recognized by the international critics, and the town that lends its name to the Port wine", commented the President of Instituto dos Vinhos do Douro e do Porto, Manuel Novaes Cabral.
