Doug Frost praises Portuguese Wines

Speaking in New York Thursday, on the sidelines of an event on the "50 best Portuguese wines", he said "Portugal has to help train people and introduce the consumer to its more special grape varieties".
Frost is a reporter and one of only three people that is both a Master of Wine and a Master Sommelier.
Referring to Portuguese grape varieties like Touriga Nacional and Alvarinho, Frost said that "Portugal realised that there is no point competing with the great producers of grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon, and this makes sense".
"Periquita was the first (Portuguese) wine I tried (after spending his honeymoon in the country in 1985) and it was one I could serve at any table", he said.
"Portugal was known for its red wines for many years. Now it is producing some very refreshing white wines that could be really successful on the American market", he added.
